The Doctrine of Baptism

The doctrine of baptisms is the first of the doctrines of Christianity to be known in its operational form. It originated in the ritual practice of the purification baths of the Mosaic Law. The apostles made it clear that baptism is the complement of believing in Jesus. Those who recognized Jesus as the Messiah (Christ in Greek) and believed that He is the Son of God for salvation immediately proceeded to be baptized.

The doctrine of baptisms establishes continuous teaching. It is not reduced to the observance of a ritual practice. The apostles established baptism within the doctrine because the Spirit demanded that they live in holiness. They recognized that this is the way to live under the Lordship of Christ. The apostle Peter wrote that baptism is a demand of a good conscience.

Baptism is by immersion and is exercised by one who has believed in and acknowledged the Lordship of Jesus. Baptism can be performed by anyone, not just an ordained minister. The person being baptized must simply have faith and live by it. It is not possible to baptize oneself. Another person must baptize you.
This module is designed to ensure that students fully comprehend the true purpose of baptism, recognize its spiritual and salvific value, and above all, establish it as the foundation of life in Christ for future generations.
