Introduction
We give thanks to the only true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, to whom be honor and glory forever and ever. The Lord grants us grace and mercy to gather together and establish the teaching of His Word. As the psalmist David expressed: “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord”.
Every time we have time to dedicate to being in the presence of the Lord and exposing ourselves to His Word and to the power of His Holy Spirit, we receive instruction, teaching, and correction. All of this is time prepared by the Lord, who calls us together and gathers us to give us direction.
Foundations: Illness and Its Causes
In previous teachings we have established that illness does not come from God, nor is it His will. However, illness is the product of disobedience, sin, and man’s deviation from God’s will.
We cannot work with illness without first resolving the causes that produced it. When Jesus encountered the paralytic and declared to him “thy sins are forgiven thee”, He taught us that it is necessary to work first with the causes of illnesses so that, through the Word of the Lord and the Holy Spirit of God, those illnesses will disappear from our bodies.
It is fundamental that each one of us understands what the causes of illnesses are. In this teaching we will present four ways by which we can face those causes according to God’s Word.
First Way: Separate From Sources of Contamination
The Fundamental Principle
The book of Proverbs, chapter 28, verse 13, presents this first way: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy”.
We must separate ourselves from all sources that produce contamination. We cannot maintain bonds with elements that we know, beforehand, are products of contamination.
The Pauline Warning
The apostle Paul, in his second epistle to the Corinthians, chapter 6, verse 14, tells us clearly: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers”. This is a direct instruction to separate ourselves from every source of contamination.
In Paul’s second epistle to the Thessalonians, chapter 3, verses 6 and 14, he emphasizes even more strongly: “Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly” and later: “if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him”.
The Parable of the Sower
Jesus presented in Matthew, chapter 13, the parable of the sower which perfectly illustrates what happens when we do not separate from sources of contamination:
- The seed by the wayside: Represents one who walks very close to the world, maintaining bonds with it. The world—not only as evil, but as friendships and influences that affect life—causes the birds of the air to come and take the seed, removing the person from the kingdom of heaven.
- The seed among thorns and stony places: The cares of this world, fear of persecution, and opposition choke the seed of the gospel.
Specific Sources of Contamination
It is necessary to identify what sources in your life are producing contamination:
- Music that incites sinful behavior
- Videos and content that promotes perversity
- Television and entertainment that normalizes sin
- Folkloric or indigenous elements that contradict God’s Word
- Friendships that, although without obvious vices, contaminate through their influence
- Anything that promotes homosexuality, lesbianism, or any form of sexual immorality
A Critical Spiritual Law
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump (1 Corinthians 5:6). As long as you maintain bonds with sources of contamination, those sources will continue feeding the cause of illness.
When a man or woman of God decides to walk under the lordship of Christ Jesus, it is necessary to completely restructure the environment, the surroundings, and even friendships.
The Uncomfortable Reality
Confessing the grace of the Lord and seeking healing while maintaining sources of contamination in your home is multiplying perversity and evil. The Word establishes: “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).
Although it sounds difficult, many illnesses are produced by elements we have introduced into our home, which are not the result of our personal condition, but come from external sources we have allowed to enter.
The Biblical Foundation
Although victory is complete in Christ Jesus, who conquered Satan, it is up to each one of us to establish that victory in our own lives. It is not enough to confess it or believe it; we must move according to what God’s Word establishes.
We cannot rebuke what we sponsor. How can I oppose a spirit of witchcraft if I promote witchcraft? How can I oppose a demonic spirit if I tolerate its influences in my spaces? How can I rebuke Satan if I allow him to establish himself in my environment?
Second Way: Oppose the Ancestral Inheritance
The Problem of Spiritual Genetic Inheritance
In Exodus, chapter 20, God established a spiritual law of generational consequences: God “visiteth the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation” (Exodus 20:5).
The sins, acts, and deeds of our ancestors have effects that reach up to three and four generations after. These effects can reach even a Christian in the second or third generation because God’s Word establishes it this way.
How to Break the Generational Curse
The book of Ezekiel, chapter 18, verses 14 through 17, presents the solution:
“But if this man beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like… he shall surely live: he shall not die”.
The key is to do completely the opposite of what our parents or ancestors established. It is not simply about confessing or mentally rejecting the inheritance, but about establishing real facts that oppose the previous evil.
Practical Examples
If the inheritance was cursing → We must establish blessing
If the inheritance was theft → We must establish justice
If the inheritance was sexual immorality → We must establish faithfulness
An Important Illustration
Consider the book of Daniel. Daniel confesses not only his own sins, but also “the sins of our people” (Daniel 9:20). Why? Because Daniel understood this spiritual law: the deeds of ancestors can affect us, even if we are in Christ. The only way to break that chain is by opposing concrete actions.
The Responsibility to Establish Victory
Unfortunately, in most cases, we repeat the same mistakes, the same sins, the same situations our ancestors had. In doing so, we accumulate causes of illness, of cursing, of perversity, and of evil.
When a family has experienced suicides or violent deaths, that tendency repeats in following generations. How do we break this? By establishing the opposite, by going against what our ancestors established.
Confession Is Not Enough
Many people believe that saying “In Christ Jesus, I am free” is sufficient. But the question is: How am I truly free? Freedom is established when we oppose with concrete facts everything our ancestors did.
Ezekiel 18:19 clarifies it: “Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them; he shall surely live”.
Third Way: Establish Justice Where There Was Injustice
The Root of Oppression
Isaiah, chapter 42, verse 22, describes the state of those who live under a curse: “But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore”.
This third way is similar to the second, but specifically emphasizes breaking the acts of injustice our ancestors established through restitution.
The Power of Restitution
Ezekiel, chapter 33, verses 14 through 16, establishes it clearly:
“Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right… he shall surely live, he shall not die. None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live”.
Why Don’t We Prosper?
Many people work hard in life but fail to prosper. It is not because they lack capacity or God’s blessing. The problem is that there is an effect of ancestral injustice that reaches them.
If in past generations there was theft, embezzlement, or usurpation, that is collected until the third and fourth generation. What must we do? Make restitution.
The Example of Zacchaeus
In Luke, chapter 19, verse 8, Zacchaeus declares: “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold”.
Then Jesus says: “This day is salvation come to this house”. It was not simply eschatological salvation (going to heaven), but complete salvation: liberation, healing, restoration, and vivification.
Two Levels of Restitution
Generational level: If our ancestors committed injustice, we must make restitution to break that effect on our lives.
Personal level: If we have stolen, defrauded, usurped, or slandered someone, we must make restitution. It is not enough to ask God for forgiveness; we must restore what was taken.
Restoration of Honor
Many have spoken ill of others, have slandered them. Asking God for forgiveness does not resolve the situation; it is necessary to restore the honor and reputation of who was harmed.
Historical Testimony: King David and Saul’s Evil
In the books of Samuel it is recorded that during David’s reign a drought and famine of three years fell upon the nation. David consulted the Lord, who revealed to him that Saul had broken the promise made to the Gibeonites in the time of Joshua, killing them unjustly.
The effect of that injustice continued reaching generations after, until David acted to make restitution. This is a clear example of how the acts of our ancestors affect us.
A Mistaken Concept
There exists the belief, born from Catholicism and not from the Bible, that asking God for forgiveness is sufficient: “Lord, forgive me because I stole. Lord, forgive me because I defrauded”. God’s Word does not work that way.
Faith requires action. It is not simply about confession, but about restoration, restitution, and repayment. It is about re-establishing what at some point we took or usurped.
Why Many See No Results
The reason why many people, although they come to Christ Jesus and ask for healing and liberation, see no results, is because the Lord is waiting for them to act like Zacchaeus: for the decision to make restitution to come from within us.
The grace of Christ does not eliminate the responsibility to make restitution. On the contrary, it is evidence that we walk according to His grace and have repented of our old way of living.
Fourth Way: Submit to Spiritual Liberation
When Nothing Else Works
There are cases in which, despite all previous efforts, there is resistance and reluctance for the cause to depart. In these cases, the solution is to submit to spiritual liberation.
Isaiah, chapter 10, verse 27, declares it: “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing”.
The Yoke of the Demon
There are causes of illness that will not depart until the person submits to liberation. There are illnesses that will not be freed except when the demon is cast out. Why? Because the demon has taken such authority over the person’s life that he will not release her on his own.
The Demon Does Not Respect Medicine
The demon does not respect medicine. He will not leave through medication or through confessions alone. Only when the yoke is destroyed and broken because of the anointing, when the authority of Christ is exercised, will the demon release his prey.
Matthew, chapter 12, verse 28, affirms it: “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you”.
A Case of Liberation
Years ago, a young man of approximately 25 years came fasting seeking liberation. He explained to me that he desired to consecrate himself to the Lord, but had a sexual weakness. He fell into sin frequently, visiting houses of prostitution.
While I was praying for him, the Lord spoke to me clearly: “Rebuke a beast force”. I acted according to what the Lord indicated to me, and the young man manifested the demonic presence. His arms convulsed, but he was set free.
Afterward I asked what had happened in his life. The young man confessed that years before he had fallen into bestiality. That was what needed to be rebuked and cast out. The repeated falls were the result of that particular act.
The Nature of the Demon
It is important to remember: the presence of the demon is not simply to torment. The demon is there to kill. Jesus said it clearly: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10). No demon is there simply to disturb; they are there to destroy the person’s life.
Isaiah 49:24-25 – The Promise of Liberation
“Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children”.
The Lord promises to free the captives and recover the prey from the enemy.
Conclusion: Four Ways to Work With the Causes of Illness
We have presented four ways by which we can face and resolve the causes of illnesses:
1. Separate From Every Source of Sin
Withdraw from every source that produces sin, perversity, and evil. This includes not only places, but also people whose presence contaminates your life. Separate yourself from music that incites immorality, from content that promotes sin. Do not keep insisting, hoping to testify to others while remaining in contaminated environments. Separate yourself completely.
2. Oppose the Ancestral Inheritance
Everything your ancestors established as a pattern of evil, you must oppose with its opposite. If they were cursers, be a blessing. If they were unjust, be just. If they were negative, be positive. Overcome evil with good. This is the only way to break the generational curse.
3. Establish Justice and Restitution
If there was theft, embezzlement, or usurpation in your ancestral line, establish justice and restitution. Confession is not enough; you must act. Return what was taken. Restore the honor of who was harmed. It is more blessed to give than to receive. That is true healing.
4. Submit to Spiritual Liberation
There are cases in which the enemy has exercised such dominion over a person that only spiritual liberation will break it. When you demand that the demon release his prey, he must obey. The yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing.
A Call to Action
Move in faith. Do not question whether this will work or not. Do not say: “I have received different teaching”. Move according to what God’s Word establishes. Thus, the work of your faith will establish the provision of life in Christ Jesus for you.
Healing is also salvation. By His stripes we were healed. May the fulfillment of this Word become a reality in your life.
May the peace of the Lord be with you. Amen.
