Signs of the End Times: Like the Days of Noah

To the only true, eternal God, creator and sustainer of everything that exists, to Him and to Him alone we render honor and glory. With gratitude, I acknowledge the precious gift of this time He grants us, an opportunity to live, draw near to His word, and walk under the shelter of His grace, His mercy, and the light of His revelation. I give thanks because He grants us the clarity to understand that all good comes from His hand, and to Him, only to Him, is He exalted above all.

Today we delve into an essential topic, one that every man and woman of faith should deeply understand: “As in the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of Man“. Although the Bible provides abundant signs to locate us in the history God has traced, many believers advance through life without a clear direction, as if navigating adrift, without understanding what is to come. However, God has given us His word precisely so that we do not walk in darkness, but in full light. As Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp that guides my steps, a light that illuminates my path“. These words remind us that God’s children are not destined to wander in darkness or doubts, but to live with the certainty given by His truth, far from the ignorance or foolishness of those who do not know Him. For this clarity, we thank the Lord.

Before immersing ourselves in the main theme, let’s go back to a passage we have explored before in this series: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3. The apostle Paul writes: “Brothers, we ask you regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our union with Him, that you not be easily disturbed or confused, whether by a spirit, a word, or a letter that seems to come from us, as if the day of the Lord were already here. Let no one deceive you in any way, because that day will not come until first the apostasy occurs and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition“. This text offers us a clear map. We are not lost or disoriented; we know where we are and what follows. Paul tells us that Christ’s coming will not happen until two events are fulfilled: first, apostasy, and then, the appearance of the antichrist. The order is undeniable.

However, there are those who hold a contrary idea, a teaching that assures the church will be caught up before the antichrist manifests. But this passage refutes that notion. The church will go through this time of tribulation, and we need to prepare for it. Paul speaks of “the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our union with Him“. Yes, the church will be elevated, but this will occur when Christ returns, not before. If we were to be set apart beforehand, why would the Spirit of God warn us about these events? The answer is clear: because we will be here, and we must be ready to discern between the holy and the profane. This is the challenge for many believers today: they lack the knowledge and wisdom necessary to distinguish what is of God from what is not.

In ancient times, Israel fell into apostasy and reached such confusion that not even the priests could separate the pure from the impure. Apostasy clouds the mind, heart, and sight, leaving God’s children unable to see clearly. During the last four weeks, we have seen that we are immersed in this time of apostasy. But many do not recognize it because they expect it to be just a doctrinal error within the church. The reality is bigger: apostasy is a global, spiritual, and satanic movement that transcends the walls of a congregation and extends throughout the world. Faced with this, many are not prepared, and that is why we must strengthen ourselves.

Now, let’s fully enter the heart of the theme: “As in the days of Noah“. In Matthew 24:37-39, Jesus tells us: “As were the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in the days before the flood people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and they did not realize until the flood came and took them all away, so shall also be the coming of the Son of Man“. Here are two key points we must unravel. Verse 38 describes people “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” until Noah entered the ark. To understand this, we need to ask ourselves: what were the days of Noah really like? Jesus compares two moments separated by centuries but assures us that what happened then will be repeated when He returns. If we do not understand what occurred in Noah’s days, we will not grasp what it means for our time.

Someone might say: “It’s clear, it says they were eating, drinking, and marrying“. But that has always happened throughout history; it is not distinctive. The real question is: why were they doing those things? What was behind it? To answer, let’s go to Genesis 6:1-3: “When men began to multiply on the earth and had daughters, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and took wives from among all of them. Then the Lord said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he is flesh; his days shall be 120 years‘”. Here we find the key to “the days of Noah”.

A deceptive teaching has emerged, accepted by many in the church, which claims that the “sons of God” were angels who united with human women, giving rise to giants. This is false. First, that idea comes from a mythological book, not the Bible. Second, the Scriptures never call angels “sons”. Hebrews 1:5 asks: “To which of the angels did He ever say: ‘You are my Son’?“. To none. So, the “sons of God” were not angels.

Who were they, then? Genesis 5 shows us that at that time there were two lineages on earth: Cain’s and Seth’s. Cain’s descendants, known as “men”, lived apart from God, while Seth’s, the “sons of God”, called upon His name (Genesis 4:26). In Genesis 6:2, the men of Seth’s line saw the beauty of Cain’s line women and took them as wives. This union deeply displeased God. In verse 3, He declares that His Spirit will no longer strive with man and limits his days. That mixture, that alliance with the world, was an abomination that triggered the flood. That is why in Matthew 24, “eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” points to this improper union between the sons of God and the world.

God has not called us to mix with the world or seek a place in it by adopting its customs. In Numbers 25:1-3 we read another example: “Israel camped in Shittim, and the people began to unite with the daughters of Moab. They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; the people ate and bowed down to those gods. Thus Israel joined Baal-peor, and the fury of the Lord was kindled against them“. God’s people participated in the world’s festivals and practices, and this was abominable. Today, many churches adopt pagan traditions, disguising them with new names under the excuse of retaining people. But this is not conversion; it is contamination.

In 2 Corinthians 6:14-17, God exhorts us: “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. What fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? What communion has light with darkness? What harmony has Christ with Belial? What part has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, as God said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you‘”. As in the days of Noah, when Seth’s generation united with Cain’s, today believers seek alliances with the world, forgetting that that lineage was born of a murderer. This is an abomination to God.

Let’s return to Matthew 24:39-41: “They did not know until the flood came and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field, one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill, one will be taken and the other left“. Here, “taken” does not mean salvation, but destruction, like the flood that took everyone to death. The “left” are the preserved. Apostasy will invade everything—field and city—and only those who refuse to join the world will be saved.

Therefore, we must firmly decide not to participate in the world’s practices. Ezekiel 33:12-13 warns: “The righteousness of the righteous will not save him on the day he transgresses“. Although you have accepted Christ, if you mix with the world—its food, drinks, festivals—your past righteousness will not deliver you. As in the days of Noah, let us separate ourselves and live in holiness according to God’s word.
