Do you understand what you read? It was Philip’s question to the Ethiopian eunuch who returned to his homeland after having gone up to Jerusalem for worship.

It was not just to satisfy Felipe’s curiosity, it was a question of location, to know where the eunuch was located in regard to the Revelation necessary to do the Will of God.
The eunuch had knowledge of God, enough to have caused him to make such a trip to Jerusalem, but he lacked the Revelation to fulfill what God demands to be placed within His Will.
I wanted to start with this passage of the history of the salvation and redemption of a man, because this story illustrates the problem that many people are facing today as to not knowing what and how to fulfill the Will of God.
The prophet Isaiah presented God’s complaint that the people, Israel, had been taken captive, and pointed out that the cause of the captivity had been because he had lacked knowledge.

Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. Isaiah 5.13

However, if we consider that an average Jew knew the Scriptures, the Law and the Prophets, as Jesus’ dialogue with the rich young man discovers,

The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Matthew 19.20

The fact that the people were taken captive because the lack of knowledge, has to be understood more widely, as the absence of the willingness to not be taught. The eunuch established it clearly,

And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. Acts 8.31

It is in the virtue of allowing ourselves to be taught by others that we reach the benefit of discovering how to do the Will of God.

When is it that we already have all the knowledge? We never stop of learning, but this is the problem of our societies: the belief that we do not need someone to teach us.

Only he who believes that he no longer needs to be taught is the one who is exposed to the word of the prophet, of being taken captive.

Precisely those of Berea were classified as “noblest” because they received Paul’s word with enthusiasm, but revising the Scriptures to know if what Paul shared with them was true.

I encourage you to approach the right motivation this day: I need to be taught. May the Almighty prosper you.
