You are the Light of the world…

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Matthew 5:14

<p class="has-drop-cap" value="<amp-fit-text layout="fixed-height" min-font-size="6" max-font-size="72" height="80">Light is not a quality proper to the existence of this material world, we know it perfectly because we use its properties; however, Light is a spiritual quality that was introduced into this material world as an appendix of life when in Creation Jehovah- God 'spoke' so that it would be established as a natural element of this material creation.Light is not a quality proper to the existence of this material world, we know it perfectly because we use its properties; however, Light is a spiritual quality that was introduced into this material world as an appendix of life when in Creation Jehovah- God ‘spoke’ so that it would be established as a natural element of this material creation.

This is understandable when we verify that, indeed, the Light was introduced on the first day of Creation, while the great luminaries, those that feed the firmament with light, were created until the fourth day,

3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light …  And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Genesis 1:3-5

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Genesis 1:16-19

So, the Light referred to in the creation story of the first day was not a product of something emanating from it, that is, it was not a light created for the benefit of this material system, but Light entered from the environment of Eternity to delimit by it a space within which the Almighty would establish His field of action and Creation; the above has Truth and meaning from the use of the Word that Jehovah- God uses to ‘open’ that space of Eternity for the entry of Light, He says: יְהִ֣י (yehí: be), and the term used here is the same as Jehovah-God uses to reveal Himself to Moses as I am that I am (אֶֽהְיֶ֖ה: eh-yeh); so then, יְהִ֣י (yehí: let there be) and (אֶֽהְיֶ֖ה: eh-yeh: I am), from the Hebrew root היה ( ha-ya: to be), is a term that denotes ‘Eternity’ whose true meaning is, in the case of the name of Jehovah-God, I was-I am-I will be.[1] Light is the essence of Eternity where Jehovah- God moves, therefore it is the very manifestation of His Glory.

So, when Jehovah-God said, let there be light (וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֖ים יְהִ֣י א֑וֹר), He was with it, additionally, establishing ‘Eternity’ within Creation, and space also for angelic beings to cohabit within all of creation; Light is the very substance of the essence of spiritual life. Spiritual and angelic beings emanate Light, it is their natural state; the psalmist David recognizes the essence of Light that comes from Jehovah- God,

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Psalm 36:9

In the story of Job we find the testimony that everything that belongs to Eternity, its environment is Light,

2Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places. 3Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?

Job 25:2-3

We can now understand what it means that Jehovah-God imprisoned in chains of darkness the angels who had sinned, simply deprived them of the strength of His Presence and exposed them to material creation.

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

2 Peter 2:4

Light was established on this world as the basis of existence of all forms of life that were created. The natural light of the great luminaries of the fourth day was not introduced as a substitute for the Light of Eternity established on the first day, the natural light of the great luminaries was established only to mark cycles of life,

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Genesis 1:14

So, the Light of the first day is still in force, and remains active, only very few can see it, for the eyes of men are forbidden to see it. The apostle John writes in his gospel and gives testimony of His Presence among us, John defines it as the Principle of restoration and vivification of those who ‘hear’ the Voice of the Lord,

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (has not overcome it: NIV).

John 1:5

The account speaks of the Presence of Jesus on earth, without discussion; however, the account also contains the testimony that in Adam, men despised that environment of Light in which Jehovah-God had placed them, and loved more the proposal of darkness, in deterioration of the Word of the Lord.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:19

Thus, when Jesus said, “you are the Light of the world”, in principle, His statement was a re-creation of the process of Creation initiated when Light was brought in as the platform of all that was created; now, His statement was to “establish” the doctrinal teaching that in this new age of Revelation, Light would be brought by and through those who walk in the environment of light, i.e., those who walk according to the faith of Jesus,

Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

John 12:35

or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.

Job 3:16

Giving life is synonymous with ‘putting people free’.[3]  Giving life is a consequence of walking by the faith of Jesus, not a commission; this means that no one has to ‘strive’ to do, to say, to carry; there is not even a need to rebuke the spiritual hosts, the very presence of one who walks by the faith of Jesus establishes life and establishes liberation. Were not the sick healed when the shadow of the apostle Peter touched them?[4] Were not the sick and possessed at a distance healed when the apostle Paul prayed for cloths and shrouds that belonged to those in bed?[5]

During the violent incident that formed in Thessalonica because of the teachings of the Apostle Paul, there was a word that the main inhabitants of the city wanted to establish as an argument to attack the Apostle, the word was: These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;[6] however, if the reader reviews carefully the reading of the fact, he will see that it was not a great company, they were scarcely 3 or 4 men; in chapter 16 Timothy,[7] Silas[8] is mentioned, and if Luke accompanied them, they were in total together with Paul four people, however, the inhabitants of Thessalonica expressed themselves as: These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also, as if it were a great company that had come to trouble the city. What do you think? The above only confirms what Moses had established about those who walk in the light of the teachings,

29 O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! 30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up? 31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

Deuteronomio 32:29-31

To walk according to the faith of Jesus does not consist of ‘adopting’ a lifestyle, but of being a link from Heaven on earth so that through the Revelation we receive as an Inheritance of Glory,[9] we can initiate a generation of the living –God is not God of the dead, but of the living– through our words: the Light was introduced by the Word, the Light responds to the Word.

A clear example is this time of pandemic we have lived. God closed churches, however many did not understand it that way, but they moved their services to the social pages and turned them into virtual services, is that what God wanted? Was that what God demanded that they do? No, nothing like that, but not understanding how Jehovah-God is moving in these times prevents us from moving the way He does, is this walking according to the faith of Jesus?

Not understanding the ways of the Lord has led many to engage in even apostasy, and not realize it.

To be the Light of the world is to react and respond immediately to the Word of Jesus given to His Church, the Spirit is moving not through the concepts of tradition according to which we have acted, the Spirit is “speaking” and giving instructions for us to act in unconventional ways, to establish the Kingdom not by preaching but by executions of faith; Jesus presented it in this way: A city set on a hill cannot be hidden, which means a commitment to live by the principles of Jesus’ teachings, even knowing that to live by them it may die. That is the commitment of the life of faith in Jesus.

You are the Light of the world is the greatest teaching that Jesus could have given to His saints; but it is wise that we should understand what it means, for if we do not, ignorance, naivety, and unawareness expose us to being trampled upon and taken hostage by darkness.

A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden, it discovers a commitment to the Word, to the Gospel, and to Jesus to live by faith in His name, and according to His teachings; but beware, the expression is also a warning that the light on the mountain exposes the city to those who seek to steal and do evil.

Never teach others what you have not established for your own life.

The light of the body is the eye…

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Luke 11:34

At first glance we are faced with a rhetorical figure, a simile that seeks to explain the value of sight in the face of life’s experiences, which interpreted could well be understood as the ability to see, the ability to understand, or simply as the ability to discern the true spiritual value of situations.

However, since a spiritual truth cannot be presented through elements of the flesh,[1] because the things of the Spirit have to be examined spiritually,[2] we have to establish that the expression leads us to understand that there is a much greater teaching than simply understanding correctly the situations we face. Otherwise, how could we explain that the rings of the wheels next to the figures of the four animals, in Ezekiel’s vision, were full of eyes around them,[3] a vision that is also repeated in the book of Revelation?[4]

The eye is not only the way to see or understand, it has nothing to do only with the appreciation that people form of reality, there is something else, the eye carries a spiritual value that makes the body receive light or darkness, depending on the decisions-actions of the person as to what he sees. We observe the principle in the decisions-actions of Adam and Eve:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Genesis 3:5-7

The insinuation of the serpent: your eyes will be opened, knowing good and evil, bewitched Eve and caused her to see the same fruit that she was accustomed to see, to see it with a different spiritual weight. This insinuation was placed in Eve’s eyes first, and then in Adam, to such an extent that she saw that the tree was good to eat. The eyes have a spiritual potency, like an intraocular lens, that transforms the vision of the person and transforms it into light or darkness, according to the degree of obedience or disobedience that the person presents before the Word of God, or towards the things of the Kingdom.

If we continue to observe in the history of this encounter, we will see that their decision-action to eat, in disobedience to the Word of God made their eye dark and they saw their state of nakedness, normal until that moment, as a dishonorable state.

The serpent determined what it would mean for man to see: you will be like gods knowing good and evil.  The apostle Paul denounces in his second epistle to the Corinthians that Satan has blinded the eyes of Adam’s generation:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2nd. Corinthians 4:4

The deposit of tenebrousness that the serpent placed in Eve’s eyes, and by this in Adam, made the eyes the means used by witches to bewitch, to hypnotize, to paralyze with the gaze. The following example is not only an illustration of coquetry, it is the means used by Jezebel to captivate the souls of men,

And Jehu came to Jezreel: and when Jezebel heard it, she adorned her eyes with alcohol, and adorned her head, and looked out of a window. 2 Kings 9:30

The prophet Ezekiel also mentions that this form of blindness is a practice of spells that witches cast on people to make them see what they want people to see.

And say, thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women who sew magic bands on all wrists and make veils on the heads of persons of every stature to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people but save the souls alive of others for yourselves? Ezekiel 13:18 (MEV)

Therefore thus says the Lord God: I am against your magic bands with which you hunt the souls there as birds, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that you hunt as birds. Ezekiel 13:20 (MEV)

From the moment Adam and Eve accepted the insinuation of the serpent, from then on man’s seeing does not only consist in observing a reality, it is on the contrary, the power to establish a spiritual reality, good or bad, according to the light – or darkness – that man and woman carry in their eyes: Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. (11:35)

  • THEN WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT THE LIGHT OF THE BODY IS THE EYE?

It means that the eye has a spiritual capacity for transformation and manipulation, in principle, over the person himself, and over others when the person imposes himself abusively. It is a spiritual power, as already established, placed by the serpent in the eyes of Adam and Eve, and in their generation, to establish spiritual darkness and blindness, so that seeing, seeing, and not perceiving.

Expressions such as, she was despised in her eyes,[5] seeing with anger,[6] seeing with compassion,[7] etc., are not only rhetorical expressions but the real spiritual description of what people establish through their eyes.

Seeing with anger means to establish anger and to link others with such a feeling; it means not only an establishment of darkness within the person himself who sees with such a feeling, but also an envelopment of others within such darkness. A clear example of this manipulation of darkness in the following case presented by Jesus himself,

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? Mathew 20:15

In the review of this case it can be observed that those who acted in this way introduced into the environment a spirit of murmuring: they murmured against the Goodman of the house.[8] An evil eye can do harm if it is not stopped.

Seeing with darkness can affect a person’s mood:

But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. Luke 9:32

Seeing with darkness affects the spiritual discernment of the person:

But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. Luke 24:16

The case of many of the scribes, Pharisees and doctors of the Law described in the accounts of the Gospels had distorted the spiritual view:

Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. John 8:52

The commission of the Holy Spirit is to remove the beam from our eye first,

Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye. Luke 6:42

So that we can then establish a perfect spiritual reality and establish the respective judgment over the darkness,

But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 1st. Corinthians 2:15

  • HOW DO I FIND OUT IF I HAVE A DARK, EVIL EYE?

The dark and evil eye is revealed in the interaction with other people. No one knows that it has dark and evil eye until it interacts with other people, mainly when the person reacts to the behavior they manifest. The uncomfortable reactions to the behaviors of others are only showing the kind of evil that the person has inside.

The case of day laborers who were hired to work for only one hour and received the same pay as a full-time day laborer brought to light the evil eye of day laborers who worked the full day:

Saying, these last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. Mathew 20:12

Their evil eye was to consider themselves more worthy than others, but if this contrasting situation of pay for hours worked had not arisen, they would never have discovered it, and perhaps they would even have considered it with a feeling of seeing themselves as men of effort and courage.

The case of Agar who looked down upon her mistress with contempt brought to light the arrogance of Agar who until then had known of her condition only that she was a slave.

The dark and evil eye is revealed in the interaction with others, when we manage to see the different reactions in response to the way they act.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

Courage, resentment, humiliation, pain, etc., are not only reactions to stimuli by the actions of others, they are a sign of the existence of a dark and evil eye that has been cohabiting within the being itself, evidence of a lighted torch that has been carried inside the house, but placed under the almud.

  • HOW CAN I MAKE MY EYE A LIGHT EYE?

The eye is the lighted torch of the body, the lamp of the body; a tenebrous and evil eye is the result of a lighted torch placed under the almud, a luminous eye is the result of a lighted torch that was taken out from under the almud and placed in the candlestick so that the whole house is illuminated. The process is simple, it is to remove the torch lit from under the almud and place it in the candlestick, How do I do it?

The process consists of seeing and following the proposed model: Jesus. The apostle Paul presented it in the following way:

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 1st. Corinthians 11:1

Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. Philippians 3:17

If the teaching is Jesus’, and it was He who discovered the spiritual importance of the subject, don’t you think that the process consists of seeing and following the path that Jesus traced? Indeed, that is what the Scriptures establish:

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrew 12:2

The dark and evil eye is transformed and turned into a luminous eye when our eyes are directed towards Jesus, to see in his doctrine the way of restoration. The fall of Adam and Eve consisted in having turned away from the Word -Jesus, the Word of God- and replaced it with the word of the serpent.

When Moses lifted up a metal serpent in the wilderness and proposed it as the antidote to the bite of the serpents,[9] he was denouncing that this was the condition of Adam’s generation and that by his fixation on it he was alienated from God. Therefore, when Jesus established that it was necessary for the son of man to be lifted up as the serpent was lifted up; he was establishing that the way of light is Jesus.[10]

To look upon Jesus is to see Jesus as the recovery of the image that was taken away by the serpent in Eden. To look upon Jesus means to hear His Word and validate it as the decision-action in obedience to God. To look upon Jesus is to walk, even as he walked. [11]  To look upon Jesus is the decision-action to submit to His lordship. To look upon Jesus is to renounce worldly religiosity that proposes a moralistic and philosophical message as the message of the gospel. To look upon Jesus is to build on his teaching, and to live it without an interpretation that dilutes it.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Mathew 7:24-27

To look upon Jesus is to make a decision, a firm decision, and to live for it,

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves…   25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:22-25

May God prosper your way!
