Haiti and Chile, Signs of God to the world?

Recently while teaching the Introduction to the New Testament course and discussing how the apostle John presents in his gospel the works of Jesus in exactly seven miracles, which the apostle calls signs, the Lord led me to compare the purpose of the seventh sign – the resurrection of Lazarus from the dead – with the purpose for our time of two recent events that caught everyone’s attention in 2010. I am referring to the earthquake in Haiti, on January 12, and the confinement and eventual rescue of the 33 miners in the San José mine, in Chile, on October 13 of that same year.

Although the apostle acknowledges that the deeds of Jesus were so many that “if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written“,[1] he only highlights seven miracles-signs of them.

The apostle presents these seven signs as if they were seven great lessons, as in Genesis the seven days of Creation are presented, and he highlights from each of them how God establishes with signs His methodology of operation in the midst of the times. The signs are not chosen at random, they were duly selected as part of a school of teaching of which His gospel is the textbook.

The story itself discovers the teachings and purposes of each sign. In chapter one, in the presentation of the person of Jesus, it reads: “and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,[2]

In chapter 2, when he begins to relate the work of Jesus’ ministry, John notes: “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory.[3] Then, again, in chapter 4, when it refers to the healing of the son of the nobleman, the second miracle described again highlights the order of the signs: “This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.”[4]

The whole book of John has this emphasis of emphasizing that although He does not seek His own Glory, the signs establish His Glory as sent from the Father.

  1. John 5.41 I receive not honour from men.
  2. John 5.44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
  3. John 7.18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
  4. John 8.50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
  5. John 8.54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
  6. John 9.24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
  7. John 11.4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
  8. John 11.40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
  9. John 12.41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
  10. John 12.43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
  11. John 17.5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
  12. John 17.22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
  13. John 17.24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Therefore, and concluding on the value of signs in John’s gospel, Jesus’ miracles lead the reader to discover unwritten protocols of spiritual execution. Miracles are signs; they are forms of the revelation of the spiritual processes of the Kingdom on earth, indispensable forms of interpretation to understand the work of God in the midst of the times.

The seventh sign of John’s Gospel is aimed at discovering who God’s chosen ones are, and how they should understand the Kingdom through what happens around them. The teaching is aimed at the reader to understand that everything is a sign from God, everything is a lesson. Of course, in order to understand it, God’s chosen must remove everything that belongs to their personal interests because a personal interpretation of the situation they face is a counterweight, and stands in the way of the interpretation and implementation of the Word. The Chosen cannot highlight the adversity of their experiences and classify them as “misfortune”. The expression, “Didn’t I tell you that if you want to believe, you will see the glory of God?” shows us that even adverse things establish the Glory of God.

In all that God does on the face of the world, there is a mystery revealed to mark, measure and execute the agenda of His times. God marks the times of execution of His plans through signs.

So, when God led me to compare this seventh sign with the events of the earthquake in Haiti and the captivity of the miners in the San José mine in Chile, He is showing me that there is an urgency in the Kingdom to prophetically awaken a believing people who have not realized the value of having been called chosen lineage.[5]

The earthquake in Haiti and the captivity of the miners have several particular and common characteristics, which by the Spirit of the prophecy that blows in all our regions establish signs of interpretation for us. Two characteristics stand out from these two events that constitute them as a sign to the whole world.

Both disasters captured the world’s attention.

The presence in the country of so many world-renowned personalities was extraordinary and far beyond what an earthquake has meant for other regions.

In the case of Haiti, former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Busch visited the country and set up a community aid fund. Film artists, world-renowned personalities moved and visited the island, and some stayed for a long time. All these visits moved the world’s attention to Haiti.

The presence of so many world personalities that Haiti received does not compare to the magnitude of the earthquake, other regions were impacted by earthquakes of equal or greater magnitude and never received such number of world visits. There is only one explanation to all this world attention about Haiti: It is God’s spiritual act of presenting to the whole of humanity a signal to warn of His executions on earth.

The same thing happened with Chile, the event was followed by several television networks, and the press coverage was worldwide. It is estimated that 1300 million people saw the live transmission of the rescue of the miners. TV personalities, such as the case of the animator and presenter Don Francisco, who transmitted from the San José mine.  The mentions of the president of the United States, Barack Obama, in a communiqué distributed by the White House by sending them a greeting the day before their rescue; the mentions of the pope in turn Benedict XVI, on September 2nd; and those of the Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra on September 3rd, who in his Twitter account invited to pray for the 33 miners.

And so, in the same way were joined Spanish football teams and players such as David Villa; writers of the caliber of Isabel Allende, who with her participation turned the world’s attention to the 33 miners rescued. To date, two films have been filmed about the rescue of the miners.

All this interest obeys, once again, to a spiritual and prophetic operation of God to mark the whole world a sign of the times so that all may know how to place themselves before Him. It is the Glory of the Almighty that is settling on the earth as prophesied by the prophet Habakkuk: “The earth shall be full of knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.[6]

Both the epicenter of the Haiti earthquake and the San Jose mine are located on the same geographic longitude.

The coordinates of the epicenter of the earthquake in Haiti are: 18° 27′ 05” N / 72° 26′ 42.00″ W. The coordinates of the San Jose mine are: 27° 09′ 37” S / 70° 29′ 48.4″ W. Two degrees of longitude difference that was reduced to zero with the earthquake in Chile on February 27 of the same year.

NASA recently certified that the earth’s axis was moved due to the earthquake in Chile on February 27, causing the difference in coordinates to be nullified and both sites to be located at the same longitude.

Chilean Quake May Have Shortened Earth Days

The Feb. 27 magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile may have shortened the length of each Earth day.

JPL research scientist Richard Gross computed how Earth’s rotation should have changed as a result of the Feb. 27 quake. Using a complex model, he and fellow scientists came up with a preliminary calculation that the quake should have shortened the length of an Earth day by about 1.26 microseconds (a microsecond is one millionth of a second).

Perhaps more impressive is how much the quake shifted Earth’s axis. Gross calculates the quake should have moved Earth’s figure axis (the axis about which Earth’s mass is balanced) by 2.7 milliarcseconds (about 8 centimeters, or 3 inches). Earth’s figure axis is not the same as its north-south axis; they are offset by about 10 meters (about 33 feet).

By comparison, Gross said the same model estimated the 2004 magnitude 9.1 Sumatran earthquake should have shortened the length of day by 6.8 microseconds and shifted Earth’s axis by 2.32 milliarcseconds (about 7 centimeters, or 2.76 inches).

Gross said that even though the Chilean earthquake is much smaller than the Sumatran quake, it is predicted to have changed the position of the figure axis by a bit more for two reasons. First, unlike the 2004 Sumatran earthquake, which was located near the equator, the 2010 Chilean earthquake was located in Earth’s mid-latitudes, which makes it more effective in shifting Earth’s figure axis. Second, the fault responsible for the 2010 Chilean earthquake dips into Earth at a slightly steeper angle than does the fault responsible for the 2004 Sumatran earthquake. This makes the Chile fault more effective in moving Earth’s mass vertically and hence more effective in shifting Earth’s figure axis.

Gross said the Chile predictions will likely change as data on the quake are further refined. (Buis, 2010)

Is this a coincidence?  No, it’s not, it’s a sign for our days, just like the signs presented in John’s gospel, which speak mostly to the chosen about the work of the Kingdom on earth.

God is telling us something for our days. The problem is that we can’t see it. I quote two texts that explain why we cannot see it.

Mathew 16:1-3         The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

John 8:43       Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

In both texts we are required to understand that there are signs of the times, which are the language of God to warn us, to reveal to us some mystery of the Kingdom on earth.

Both events, the earthquake in Haiti and the rescue of the 33 miners in Chile are marking, mainly, the times of the Kingdom, and suggest us how to measure them.

Haiti was the first Latin American nation to become independent (second in America) on January 1st 1804. The earthquake occurred in the same month of its independence, and for Haiti, its independence did not mean political independence, as it was for other Latin American nations, but rather liberation from slavery. In fact, there are records that the way they did it was not by arms, but by using witchcraft, voodoo, as a tool.

Chile, on the other hand, is the last American land to be discovered, Chile was discovered by Diego de Almagro on March 21st, 1536, and he did so by entering the Andes through the Paipote ravine, in the middle of the Copiapó Valley, which he named the Valley of Possession, the same land where the San José mine is located.

The captivity of the miners and their rescue also speaks to us of liberation, but in this case, liberation from death, the miners were literally liberated from certain death, their rescue has been considered a feat, and was like extraditing them from hell itself.

Two countries -Haiti and Chile- two communities with the same common characteristic of poverty, which encloses the entire non-Anglo-Saxon America that was the object of exploitation, slavery, and prostitution, where today their daily work is more a birth of suffering than a way of earning a living.

Why are Haiti and Chile God’s signs to the world?

Because the events that took place in both countries in 2010 are reminding us – and marking in the history of the world – God’s intention to erase every debt and every misfortune into which man and woman would have fallen, for whatever reasons, and could start all over again recovering everything they had lost.

When we read the text of Leviticus 25 describing the Constitution of the Kingdom that God constituted on the face of the earth through Moses, we discover that He promulgated a statute for the redemption of all those who had fallen into poverty or slavery and who had therefore lost their properties: you will proclaim liberty on earth to all its inhabitants.[7]

The promulgation of freedom was to be fulfilled every 7 years, and those who could not be redeemed on those dates because they had not paid their debts, the promulgation demanded total liberation in the eighth cycle of 7 years, whether or not they had the resources to pay off their debts. This date constituted the year of liberation and forgiveness of debts. These celebrations are known as the feasts of the years shemitah (every 7 years), and the feast of the year Yovel (jubilee), in the year 50. The promulgation was so that there would be neither poor nor slave on the earth because He had taken them out of the slavery of Egypt.

What the Liberty Bell meant for the thirteen original colonies of the United States, which contains engraved on its edge the same words of freedom proclamation of Leviticus, is what the proclamation of freedom meant for the dwellers of the earth, to the sound of shofars, on the Day of Atonement: the liberation of all debt and the recovery of their properties.

That is what happened in 2010, particularly with the liberation of the 33 miners. On that day 33 miners were proclaimed free, trapped for 70 days, and returned to their homes and families, as God stipulated in Leviticus 25.
If we examine the liberation of the 33 miners and the rejoicing that it meant for the entire world, and compare it with the promulgation of freedom referred to in Leviticus 25, proclaimed just on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), we have to understand that that day, October 13th, 2010, coincided with the Day of Atonement of God’s calendar, a calendar lost after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. This is the value of the miners’ rescue.

If we calculate the number of days between January 12th, the date of the earthquake in Haiti, and October 13th, the date of the release of the miners from Chile, we will see that the number of days is exactly the same as the number of days of gestation of a baby: 274 days (9 months).

In other words, what was conceived on January 12th was given birth on October 13th. On October 13th, 2010, God proclaimed independence and freedom over the whole earth, by virtue of the blessing that God gave to Abraham.[8]

The earthquake in Haiti and the case of the rescue of the miners in Chile bring to world attention the need to revitalize the saving message of the Gospel of the Kingdom. From Haiti to Chile a message of liberation is being traced that is necessary to proclaim for all Latin American land, liberation from slavery and death.

So, from Haiti to Chile, a message of healing of the earth is being traced. We need to understand that it is necessary to lift the curse of this earth. It is not a new message, it is the message of the Gospel that Jesus established, the same of which the prophet Isaiah wrote, and said: The spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me, because the Lord anointed me; I have been sent to preach good news to the meek, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and to the prisoners the opening of the prison.[9]

Haiti and Chile are signs of God to the world because it is ordering the times, it is discovering to the wise the right times, God’s times for which we must act. The times that were marked for the children of Israel when they left Egypt, when God Himself took care of them by giving them supernatural provision through manna so that they would have time to seek His presence.

October 13th, 2010 is according to the divine calendar the Day of Atonement -Yom kippur- the 10th day of the seventh month. If we consult a Hebrew calendar of that year we will notice that it does not coincide with the Day of Atonement, and it is because the modern Hebrew calendars that follow the count of times were disrupted and paganized after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman Empires, because in their calculations they still use the same pagan Sabbath as their seventh day. Their calculations are not correct.

On October 13th, 2010, due to the characteristic of the rescue event of the 33 miners trapped for 70 days, the date acquires a unique spiritual value. Note that the number of miners is exactly the age of Jesus when he gives up his life on the cross of Calvary, and the 70 days of captivity is similar to the 70 years of exile the Jewish nation spent in Assyrian lands.

What does this data tell us? These similarities are leading us to understand that October 13th, 2010 corresponded to the 10th day of the seventh month in the biblical calendar, the Day of Atonement, but celebrated in a year of Jubilee, a day in which the remission of debts was proclaimed on earth and where all returned to their inheritances. Let’s see it in the next verse:

10And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. 11A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed. 12For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field. 13In the year of this jubile ye shall return every man unto his possession. Leviticus 25:9-13

The promulgation of this law took place precisely on a Day of Atonement, as we read in the following text:

Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. Leviticus 25:9

That means that the year 2010, starting in spring, in April and not March, was a Yovel year, and God is marking it so that we know about the end times and how to move in them.

Why did God choose these two nations to mark a sign of the Kingdom on earth? Because they represent all of Latin America, they are the first and the last, identical to what we read in Revelation, the alpha and the omega, that is, everything, no nation is excluded. They are the last of the earth from which Jesus commanded his disciples to reach with the Gospel message.

Haiti and Chile are signs of God to the world because their geographical coordinates and the distance between the two points are marking a YARDSTICK OF TIME MEASUREMENT.  If we draw a line between the two positions on a map you will notice that a rod is formed.

Using the coordinates of both points we can find the distance between both positions. The Haversine formula is used to perform the calculation. The distance between the two coordinates is approximately 5,076.14 KM (3,154.36 Miles). If we consider that the system used in Latin America is MKS, we use the measure kilometers and we take them as kilometer-days. It turns out that we have 5076.14 days, and when we do the proper conversion we get the date of September 5th, 2024.

This is a measuring rod of time that starts counting from the 13th of October 2010, the date of the liberation of the miners.

According to everything described above, if the year 2010 was a shemitah year, the year 2024 is also a shemitah year, and if the calculations point to that year, other significant events in the style of Haiti and Chile will have for that year, only this time, for Israel, in view of the Scripture that says: to make in Himself the two in a new man.[10] If the Gentiles and Israel are one, and what has already happened concerning the Gentiles in 2010, the next thing, in 2024 is for Israel.
